With the growing consumerism of people, you know that the amount of items that are bought everyday is increasing day by day. This means more packaging is being used to ship these items or move these items. Initially no one really cared regarding the kind of packaging used, but not anymore. People are aware how these packaging options are often hazardous to the environment. That is exactly why more and more companies and professional packers are getting conscious and moving towards becoming eco friendly when packaging their items.

The main trick is to use such a material that is eco-friendly. Use packages that can be recycled and reused. Do not pack up something in such a way that during unpacking you would have to tear it off to bits. That way one package cannot be used for something else. You could also get decorative packaging that would discourage the consumers to throw the package away. You can also use lighter materials for packaging which is a lesser burden to the environment. Using recycled packages is an even better option.

You have surely heard about Global Warming and the harmful short term and long term effects of the same. Global Warming that is mainly caused due to the Greenhouse Effect is something not just Research Scientists but every human being must worry about.

Greenhouse effect and hence Global Warming are a cumulative result of improper and excessive exploitation of the energy resources. Hence resorting to eco-friendly, renewable alternative energy resources are a step in the right direction to save our planet.

Solar energy and hydro power are of course resources that can serve all our problems if tapped and made commercially viable, another option is the GTL (Gas-to-liquid) diesel fuel, this is a non-explosive fuel and an excellent source of energy. LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) is another frozen alternative energy source. Remember it is your planet, and oil and coal are not produced as fast as we deplete them. Resort to alternatives, save yourself and your abode.

Greenhouse gases can trap heat in the atmosphere raising global temperature. Following these simple steps can prevent this:
    • Our aim is to limit the emission of greenhouse gases. Restricting energy consumption can do this. Burning coal and other fuel produce energy or electricity, this releases carbon dioxide into the air. So limiting the use of electricity can help us reduce emissions.

    • Another effective means of doing this is by planting trees. Plants absorb CO2 from the atmosphere and reduce greenhouse effect. It also cools down your atmosphere reducing electricity consumption.

    • Restricting unnecessary use or consumption of things also helps a lot. Except important articles, don’t buy useless products. Better to opt for green or eco friendly alternatives rather than use of plastics and non-biodegradable

These simple ways we can reduce greenhouse gases from forming in the atmosphere. Also try to switch to solar or wind energy for energy, they are renewable sources.

    What are greenhouse gases?

Posted In: Environment & Conservation by greenerimpact

Greenhouse gases are those that let sunlight enter into the atmosphere. These gases also help in absorbing infrared radiation that gets reflected from the earth. This traps the heat and raises the temperature of the earth. If the greenhouse effect stops taking place then earth would be unsuitable to inhabit by humans.

But, too much of it will again harm the atmosphere. Greenhouse gas that occurs naturally is water vapor. Human activities form gases like carbon dioxide, fluorinated gases, nitrous oxide and methane.

We can help reduce emissions of green house gases by using eco friendly products, energy star appliances and renewable sources of energy. Better to avoid machines as much as possible and do things the natural way without harming the environment. Use as much green products as possible for cleaning, painting and working. Emission of green house gases lead to global warming and that signifies tough times for survival. So stick to green.

Water is getting scarce as population is increasing and climate is changing. These are some of the ways listed below that helps you go green by conserving water:

Get modern appliances: Old appliances like an old washer uses 56 gallons per load, also dishwasher, so it is high time to change it with the new model with star rating.

Repair leaks: If there is a leaky faucet, appliance or toilet in your home, immediately repair it. Leaks are a major reason for high water bills and also wastage of water.

Irrigate less: Our motto is to save water so don’t water frequently for long durations. You can even save water by installing automatic devices that stop sprinklers during rain or after the rain.

Install new toilets: Old toilets use around 7 gallons of water with every flush. Also change showerheads that waste more water than needed.

Every step taken to conserve water is for our own benefit.

Geothermal heating may reduce dependence on fossil fuel, but it is said to have some impact on the environment. Though it is not serious but definitely some adverse effect it poses on nature. Geothermal reservoirs are present beneath the earth and heat from them is extracted via drillings. This may cause some local environmental effects like

    • Drying out of hot springs
    • Deterioration of tourism as scenery is robbed of its beauty
    • Soil erosion
    • Noise pollution
    • Adulteration of ground waters and atmosphere with chemicals.
    • Most importantly, it may lead to seismic activities resulting in landslides.

These can be overcome if certain methods are employed like ‘directional drilling’ and ‘injection of spent geothermal fluid’. With new researches to further geothermal heating, new techniques would be developed to subside environmental deterioration that it brings along. But undoubtedly this is effective and highly desired source of renewable energy that is eco-friendly.
