When methane crystallizes under high pressure and low temperature, it becomes frozen fuel. This can be burnt and gives energy. Frozen fuel is located below the surface of the earth. In order to release this gas, a hole is drilled into the earth and hit on the methane deposit. This gas is then transported to anywhere across the nation through pipes. Frozen fuel is also found in huge quantities beneath ocean surface.
Cautionary measures need to be taken while extracting methane from its locations. Else it may result in leakage and lead to landslides under water like the Tsunami killing innumerable people by the Indian Ocean. There are researches being carried out to see the pros and cons of mining this gas. Frozen fuel that may lead to a hazard is never a welcome breakthrough. With the increase in gas consumption, we can only hope to utilize this gas trapped in hydrates for our needs.
